House impeachment manager Stacey Plaskett is now outlining how serious the threat of murder was for key lawmakers, including Vice-President Mike Pence, GOP Senator Mitt Romney and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.

Audio of the Speaker’s staff whispering in fear as the door to the room where they are hiding is being pounded on has been played.

“We know from the rioters themselves that if they had found Speaker Pelosi, they would have killed her,” Plaskett said.

Video of one rioter calling out in a sing-song voice: “Nancy, oh Nancy, where are you Nancy?” has been shown to senators.

Pelosi’s office was ransacked.

“They were talking about assassinating the Vice-President of the United States,” Plaskett said.

In another astonishing statement, she said, “Vice-President Pence was threatened with death by the President’s supporters.”

Romney saved by officer who turned him away from mob

By Latika Bourke

Plaskett is showing security footage showing how close the rioters came to Vice-President Mike Pence and Republican senator and Trump critic Mitt Romney.

Pence and his family were being evacuated down the stairs as the rioters spread throughout the building as those inside let in rioters outside as they hunted for Pence.

Outside, the rioters erected a gallows and were shouting for Pence.

Another video showed police officer Eugene Goodman potentially saving Romney’s life. Romney was unwittingly heading towards the mob but was redirected by the officer.

Dramatic footage shows Capitol being breached

Plaskett is now showing security footage captured from inside the Capitol building.

This is footage that has previously never been aired.

In the video, the first breach occurs when a rioter breaks through a window with a wooden beam.

He jumps in through the broken window and is greeted by a lone police officer who responds and uses his spray, but he is immediately overwhelmed.

The second man through the window is carrying a baseball bat and wearing full tactical gear, something Plaskett points out. Others hold shields and carry Trump flags.

Within seconds, the foyer is filled with Trump supporters carrying flags, weapons and defence gear.

Audio of emergency call played to senators

By Latika Bourke

House impeachment manager Stacey Plaskett has resumed proceedings.

She has played audio of radio communications made by Metropolitan police to highlight the chaos inside the building.

In one call, an officer says it appears members of the mob are letting off fireworks.

In another call, an officer declares the incident a riot.

Footage of Vice-President Mike Pence being ushered out of the chamber is also played in sequence as Plaskett recreates the timeline of the riot.

Biden not watching the impeachment hearing

By Latika Bourke

The hearing has adjourned for about 15 minutes - it’s coming up to 4pm in Washington.

If you’re wondering what US President Joe Biden is doing through all this, well he’s definitely not watching the impeachment proceedings.

‘This attack never would have happened but for Trump’

By Latika Bourke

House impeachment manager Madeleine Dean has concluded her presentation with an emotional address as she recollected the siege on the US Capitol on January 6.

“The truth is, this attack never would have happened but for Donald Trump,” she said. “And so they came, draped in Trump’s flag and used our flag, the American flag, to batter and to bludgeon.

“And at 2.30, I heard that terrifying banging on House chamber doors. For the first time in more than 200 years, the seat of our government was ransacked – on our watch.”

Trump told supporters to ‘fight today’ on January 6

By Latika Bourke

House impeachment manager Madeleine Dean is back to further the case against Donald Trump.

She is recounting her experiences on January 6 - her voice wavering ever so slightly - as she contrasts the chaos of the day with how the President spent that day.

She says that on that day, Trump’s message changed from “fight” to “fight today.”

She plays a clip of him at the rally saying “we will not take it anymore and that’s what this is all about,” as he gestures to his supporters.

“We will stop the steal,” Trump told his supporters.

Dean plays clips of Trump endorsing his then legal adviser Rudi Guliani and Guliani then saying there needs to be “trial by combat.”

After showing footage of Trump hitting out at Vice-President Mike Pence, Dean plays a clip of Trump saying “we’re going to walk down to the Capitol” and that he’d walk with supporters.

Trump then jokes that the crowd will be cheering some congressmen and women but not others.

She says Trump used the word “fight” 20 times compared to a single reference to a “peaceful” march.

Another clip is played of Trump supporters chanting “take the Capitol” and “storm the Capitol” as Trump speaks.

“They are words of insurrection,” Dean told jurors.

Mob’s march not authorised until Trump got involved

By Latika Bourke

House impeachment manager Stacey Plaskett tells senators that a permit for Trump’s supporters to march from the Ellipse, where Trump had convened his rally, to the Capitol was not authorised until the President and his team got involved in the planning.

She also showed a photograph of a Proud Boys leader at the march wearing an ear piece, suggesting the attack was co-ordinated and planned.

Plaskett also cited online threads that featured Trump supporters stating that the Capitol their “target” and that they were willing to die, saying the march on the Capitol was an “act of war” and not just a protest.

Trump put ‘fight music’ to bus incident footage

By Latika Bourke

House impeachment manager Stacey Plaskett has given a detailed account of how a Trump caravan of supporters attempted to run a Biden-Harris campaign bus off the road.

When the President saw the footage, he published it on his Twitter account but first added “fight music,” Plaskett told jurors.

Trump also used his Twitter account to criticise the FBI for investigating the incident.

Plaskett said this was direct evidence of Trump encouraging his supporters to carry out violent behaviour.

One of the drivers who tried to run the Biden campaign bus off the road then took part in the attack on the Capitol on January 6, Plaskett said.

“This link is not hypothetical,” Plaskett said.

Interestingly, Marco Rubio, one of the GOP senators who has said he will not vote to convict Trump, has previously said of the Trump caravan supporters “we love what they did.”
