Trump was temporarily banned from Twitter during the chaos before being booted off the platform permanently.

Raskin says some of the video footage of the riot that will be shown as evidence against Trump will be so graphic there will be warnings issued before the videos are played.

This footage is expected to be previously unseen security footage captured inside the building as the rioters swarmed the building on the hunt for congressmen and women.

He is urging teachers watching proceedings with their pupils to be mindful of the violence that will be displayed.

Trump prepared supporters for ‘act of war’

By Latika Bourke

House impeachment manager Eric Swalwell is now outlining the numerous times that Donald Trump urged his followers to show up in Washington DC on January 6.

Swalwell says the repeated urgings were incitements, and frequently featured the slogan “Stop the steal,” which stood for his false claim that the election had been rigged.

He is also presenting tweets from Trump republishing messages from his supporters, one of whom was an organiser of a Facebook group called “Stop the Steal,” saying the “cavalry was coming.”

He presented a tweet in which Trump claimed that if a Democrat candidate was the victim of election rigging, Democrat senators would consider it an “act of war.”

“This is all connected,” Swalwell said. “An act of war - that’s how Donald Trump prepared his supporters for January 6.”

Swalwell draws on his pre-political career prosecuting violent crimes.

“Was this a heated passion crime or was it something more deliberate?,” he asked

“The evidence here is overwhelming, President Trump’s conduct leading up to January 6 was deliberate, planned and premeditated.”

‘Dead people voted’ claims debunked

By Latika Bourke

Joaquin Castro has now handed over to his fellow Democrat and House impeachment manager Eric Swalwell.

Swalwell is presenting as evidence Donald Trump’s bogus claims of election fraud.

He points to a Tweet issued in mid-November in which Trump claimed: “Dead people voted.”

“‘Dead people voted’ - that’s it - no evidence, just ‘dead people voted,’” an incredulous Swalwell told the Senate.

Castro then plays footage of angry Trump supporters surrounding the house of the Michigan Secretary of State, claiming the election had been stolen and that she was a felon.

He says this showed a history of Trump’s supporters using “threats and intimidation” and the President doing nothing to stop it.

“President Trump cannot say ‘I didn’t know what I was inciting’ [based on] what manager Castro showed and what I just showed,” Swalwell said.

Trump didn’t stop armed supporters: Castro

By Latika Bourke

House impeachment manager Joaquin Castro is now outlining the link between violence, Donald Trump’s tweets and words, and the mob of supporters that stormed the Capitol on January 6.

Castro is showing footage of Trump supporters becoming violent and bearing arms at rallies prior to the January 6 riot as they falsely claimed the election result was stolen.

He says this shows that Trump knew that his supporters were armed and that they could become violent, but still did nothing to stop them.

“When he did know and it was all over the news, President Trump didn’t stop it,” Castro told the Senate.

He says Trump repeatedly sold his base “the big lie” of the election being robbed from them, while also issuing specific instructions about where to turn up on January 6 as Joe Biden’s victory was being certified.

“This violent mob that showed up here on January 6 didn’t come out of thin air, President Donald John Trump incited this violence,” Castro finished.

Trump’s rigging claims began six months before poll, Senate told

By Latika Bourke

The next House impeachment manager to outline the evidence against Donald Trump is Democrat Joaquin Castro.

Castro is underlining how many months in advance Trump started to lay the groundwork for his false claims of election fraud.

Castro shows a tweet Trump published in May claiming the election would be “the greatest rigged election in history.”

“How could he possibly know it would be the greatest rigged election in history six months before the election happened?” Castro asks the jurors.

He then cuts to clips of Trump supporters saying they believe that the election result will be rigged.

Trump mob hunted Pence, GOP senators told

By Latika Bourke

Interestingly, the first politician that House impeachment manager Joe Neguse singles out as a target of the rioting mob is not a Democrat but Mike Pence, Trump’s Vice-President.

Keep in mind that the likelihood of the Democrats persuading enough Republican senators to convict Donald Trump is considered slim.

Pence was loyal to Trump until he final days when he broke ranks and conceded Joe Biden’s election was legitimate.

By highlighting the danger posed to Pence so vividly, Neguse – who says Pence was hiding with his family as the mob swarmed the Capitol – is directly appealing to Republicans and reminding them that they were all targets of the mob – and could be again.

‘Call to arms was not rhetorical’, impeachment trial hears

By Latika Bourke

House impeachment manager Joe Neguse is now homing in on the language Donald Trump used to implore his voters to descend on the Capitol on January 6 - with arms.

“The call to arms was not rhetorical,” Neguse told senators.

Neguse is playing more footage of Trump telling his supporters that “if you don’t fight like hell, you’re not going to have a country anymore.”

The footage is then followed by media clips of several rioters giving interviews, saying they were acting on behalf of Trump: “I was following my President, I thought I was following what we were called to do, President Trump required that we be in DC on the sixth.”

“Senators, this clearly was not just one speech, it didn’t just happen – it was part of a carefully planned months-long effort with one instruction: show up on January 6,” Neguse told the Senate.

Trump ‘must be convicted’ to prevent future riots

By Latika Bourke

Joe Neguse, another Democrat and House impeachment manager is now further outlining the case against Donald Trump.

He says the mob was “summoned, assembled and incited” by the former president because Trump wanted to stop the transfer of power to Joe Biden.

“If we are to protected our republic and prevent something like this from ever happening again, he must be convicted,” Neguse said.

Neguse says Trump provoked some of his angry supporters by “planting seeds” with his false claims that the election was stolen from him – and them.

“That was the drumbeat being used to inspire, instigate and ignite them – to anger them,” Neguse said, before playing footage of Trump telling a rally of supporters that they would not let the election be taken away from them.

“He told his base that the election was stolen as he had forecasted, and then he told them ... you cannot concede, you must stop the steal.”

More footage of Trump telling his supporters to “stop the steal” and “you cannot let them” (the Democrats) steal the White House is being played as evidence.

‘There was method in the madness that day’: Raskin

By Latika Bourke

House impeachment manager Jamie Raskin is telling senators that while the siege of the Capitol carried out by Trump supporters on January 6 seemed like madness, “there was method to the madness that day.”

Raskin says Trump deliberately orchestrated the mob by holding a rally at the same time Congress was verifying Joe Biden’s presidential victory.

“He said ‘fight like hell’ and they brought us hell on that day,” Raskin said.

Raskin is playing footage of Trump telling his supporters that he sympathised with their hurt after the election was “stolen” from him.

Raskin says Trump continued “to act as inciter-as-chief ... by telling the mob that their election had been stolen from them,” Raskin said.
